These visual journal assignments show my understanding of the 3rd NAEA standard, Visual Arts Educators Understand Diverse Social and Cultural Constructions of Identity. The first piece shows my understanding of teaching in a culturally responsive classroom. It shows my understanding of race, culture, and ethnicity. The second piece shows my understanding of teaching culturally diverse meanings of colors in order to help students relearn their understanding of light and dark colors which adds to the stereotypes of people of color. The final piece shows my understanding that students in New Hampshire need to be taught cultural diversity due to the lack of diversity there actually is. While many people see New Hampshire as a 'white state,' there are many children of color who aren't receiving the education they need.
